Glenyce Dorothy Bruns
Glenyce Dorothy Bruns, age 95, of Readlyn, died Friday, October 13, 2017, at Hillcrest Home in Sumner, Iowa.

Glenyce was born on October 12, 1922, in Waverly, Iowa, the daughter of John H. and Minnie (Hagemann) Matthias. She was raised in rural Readlyn, Iowa, where she was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Klinger and graduated from Readlyn High School in 1939. Glenyce then attended Gates Business College in Waterloo graduating in 1941. On August 23, 1942, Glenyce was united in marriage to Elmer J. Bruns at Immanuel Lutheran Church-Klinger. The couple made their home in rural Denver, Iowa until retiring from farming and then moved to Readlyn. Besides being a farm wife Glenyce also worked at Rath Packing Company in Waterloo as a secretary and then at Readlyn Savings Bank as a teller for 28 years.

Glenyce was a member of St. John Lutheran Church-Maxfield, past member of Immanuel Lutheran-Klinger, and a member of the greatest grandma ever club. Whenever you went to visit grandma you weren’t allowed to leave without Brach’s peanut clusters or jelly beans. Glenyce’s greatest enjoyment was her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also liked playing piano, the Chicago Cubs, reading, and doing puzzles in the newspaper.

Glenyce’s memory is honored by: a daughter, Nancy Kohagen and her husband, Ronald of Readlyn, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Carole Bruns of Waverly; four grandchildren, Marcia (Jeff) Joerger, Gail (Ryan) Hull, Melissa (Brent) Meyer and Michelle Bruns; seven great grandchildren, Sam, Tessa, and Jackson Joerger, Ellie and Sydney Hull, and Isabella and Emily Meyer. She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Elmer J. on April 29, 2004; two sons, James A. Bruns on November 16, 2016 and David Bruns in infancy; and a brother, Lester Matthias.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 17, at St. John Lutheran Church-Maxfield, rural Denver, Iowa. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 16, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Readlyn and also an hour before services on Tuesday at the church. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family, where a memorial direction will be designated at a later date.
