Gladwyn “Bonnie” Gielau, of Denver, formerly of Gary, Minnesota, died Friday, November 10, 2017, at the Elizabeth E. Martin Health Center in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Bonnie was born October 5, 1932, in Gary, Minnesota the daughter of Carl and Nora (Albertson) Ysen. She graduated from Gary High School in 1950. On October 28, 1951, she was united in marriage to Lavern “Tony” Gielau at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Denver. The couple would make their home in Denver, where Bonnie worked as the church secretary at St. Peter Lutheran Church. Tony passed away on October 10, 2011, and Bonnie continued to live in Denver.

Bonnie was an active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, where she served on several committees throughout the years. She enjoyed watching baseball and playing bridge. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Bonnie is survived by one son, Bruce (Dawn) Gielau of Surprise, Arizona; seven grandchildren, Fred (Jenny) Gielau, Mike (Serenity) Gielau, Monica Bass, Mitch (Ashley) Bass, Eric Gielau, Lindsey Gielau and Regan Davis; ten great-grandchildren, Alexis, Aiden, Avery, Tilden, Tatum, Olivia, Daniel, Andrew, Brooklyn, and Stella; two sisters, Myrtle Schroeder of Waverly and Joyce McCracken of Illinois. She is preceded in death by her husband, Tony; two sons, Brian Gielau and Jon Gielau; a brother, Morris Ysen, and sisters Gertrude VanErem, Mildred Swendsen and Clarice Griese.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 13, 2017, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Denver with Pastor Alan Schulz officiating. Private inurnment will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be directed to St. Peter Lutheran Church and on-line condolences may be left at www.kaisercorson.com.
