All aboard The Polar Express
By Lindsey Corell

On December 22, Denver kindergarten through fifth grade students boarded the Polar Express in the auditorium at Cyclone Center.

Principal Chris Ward and Superintendent Brad Laures took a break from their usual duties at Denver Elementary and turned into conductors taking boarding passes from eager students in line to watch “The Polar Express” on the screen in the auditorium.

Students were boarded onto school buses at 8:30 a.m. in their pajamas, some with blankets and some with their favorite stuffed animal.

When the students arrived to Cyclone Center, they formed two lines to get their boarding pass punched by Ward and Laures. The boarding passes were personalized with the name of each student written on them. The boarding passes were given back to the students after the show to take home as keepsakes.

The students then found their seats in the auditorium and listened and sang along to Christmas music as they waited for the the last student to get their ticket punched.

After all the students were settled in, Ward sat on the auditorium stage and read the book “The Polar Express” by Chris Van Allsburg. After the book was read, the students watched the book come to life on the screen.
