Donald Elsamiller
Donald Elsamiller, 80, of Denver, died Sunday, March 11, 2018, at his home in Denver.

Donald was born September 16, 1937, on the family farm near Buck Creek. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner. He attended Dayton #5 country school outside of Sumner through the 8th grade. Shortly thereafter, he began working at Sumner Tire Shop. On June 15, 1958, he was united in marriage to Leonta Davis at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner. On April 14, 1966, he started what would become a thirty-year career at John Deere Tractor Works in Waterloo, retiring April 30, 1996.

Donald was a longtime member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Denver. He enjoyed playing cards with local card clubs as well as family. Along with Leonta, they enjoyed riding motorcycles together for 30 years. He was known as a hardworking and kind man who lent a helping hand to many people over the years.

Donald is survived by his wife Leonta of Denver, one daughter; Janet (Jessy) Kern of Denver, three sons; Jerry (Audrey) Elsamiller of Waverly, Daryl (Maureen) Elsamiller of Denver and Dean (Linda Hoth) Elsamiller of Waverly, nine grandchildren; Jonathon (Rebecca) Elsamiller, Justin (Rebecca) Elsamiller, Zachary Kern, Jordan (Julie) Elsamiller, Jeremiah Kern, Travis (Elizabeth) Elsamiller, Emilie (Dietrich) Drenkow, Amber (Colton) Rader and Gwyndolyn (John) Jones, 10 great grandchildren, three sisters; LaVonne (John) Williams of Ames, Iowa, Mardell (Eldon) Hoeper of Story City, Iowa, Karen (Allen) Fritz of Waterloo, one brother; Richard (Brenda) Elsamiller of Sumner. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Allen and Dale Elsamiller and two granddaughters; Nicole and Natalie Kern.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Denver with Pastor Mark Anderson and Pastor Charis Combs-Lay officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 19, 2018, at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Denver and for an hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
