The Class 1A #9-ranked Janesville softball team showed why they’re ranked in the top ten. They shut out a hard-working Denver softball team 12-0 in four innings using a mix of stern offense and defense to aid them in their win on June 6.

The Cyclones showed flashes of brightness, including a double from Marissa Stock, a very well-played bunt from Reese Johnson, and several excellent catches in the outfield by Emily Herbst, Johnson, and Klair Heim. One thing to note is the Cyclones pushed through the whole game, determined to never give up.

For the Wildcats, their defense made quick work of the Cyclones’ offense with help from their pitcher, Bailey Hoff, and their attentive out- and infield. Offensively, they scored a decent amount of runs from stealing home, and players who stole home include Pyper McCarville, Grace Hovenga, Kali Pletz, and Julia Meister. Also fueling their offense, Hovenga recorded an RBI double, Kamryn Umthum recorded an RBI single, Naomi Hovenga brought in a run with a bunt, and Hoff recorded a sacrificial fly to bring in a run. All of these runs led the Wildcats to their victory.
