Jeff Stein to speak at Denver Public Library
The Denver Genealogy & History Club has received funding from Humanities Iowa, a private, non-profit state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, to host a program by historian, Jeff Stein, at the Denver Public Library on Tuesday, June 25, at 6:30 in the evening. A cultural resource for Iowans since 1971, Humanities Iowa offers many cultural and historical programs and grants to Iowa’s communities.

Stein’s program, “From the Battlefront to the Homefront: Iowa Broadcasters Go to War” will feature vintage broadcasts and interviews with Iowa journalists who covered conflicts from World War 2 to the first Gulf War. Segments of Stein’s documentary by the same name will be shown during the program. He will speak on the challenges the reporters faced in doing their jobs relaying information to a waiting audience and, at times, reassuring them of the safety of Iowans serving thousands of miles away.

Jeff Stein is an author, historian, and broadcaster. He is recognized as the foremost broadcast historian in Iowa. His daily radio feature on Iowa History, Iowa Almanac, airs on two dozen stations statewide. A past member of the State Historical Society of Iowa board of Trustees, Stein taught at the college level for nearly 25 years, including at Iowa State University, Buena Vista University, William Penn University, and Wartburg College. He has produced a number of award winning radio and television documentaries. His daily interview program can be heard weekday afternoons on New/Talk 1540 KXEL, where he serves as news and program director.

To sign up to attend this free program, contact the Denver Public Library at 984-5140 or email kplatte@denver.lib.ia.us.

The Denver Genealogy and History Club meets the 4th Tuesday of the month at the Denver Public Library. Each month, a speaker on genealogy or local history is featured. All programs are free and open to the public.
