Special program planned at Willow Winds Nov. 6
Kelly Carman, Alzheimer’s Association community educator, will present “An Introduction to Alzheimer’s and Other Dementias” today, Wednesday, November 6, from 6:30–7:30 PM at Willow Winds Assisted Living. Kelly is not only a trained community educator, but has experienced the disease first-hand, helping as a caregiver for her father, who suffered from and passed away two years ago as a result of vascular dementia.

The following topics will be covered:

• Changes associated with normal aging versus potential warning signs of Alzheimer’s.
• Common risk factors of the disease
• Difference between Alzheimer’s and the term “Dementia”
• The 10 warning signs to help understand the difference between normal aging and common signs of possible dementia.
• Resources that are available through the Alzheimer’s Association
• How to take action to fight this disease

There are 5.8 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s disease and more than 16 million Americans provide unpaid care for people with Alzheimer’s or other dementias. Between 2000 and 2017, deaths from heart disease have decreased 9% while deaths from Alzheimer’s have increased 145%. Alzheimer’s and other dementias are having a devastating impact on Americans.
