The Denver ladies have really improved throughout the course of the basketball season, and it especially showed against the Hudson Pirates. Early in the season, the Cyclones were more shaky with fewer wins, including a loss against Hudson, but in the middle of the season, the ladies found their groove and have only lost 3 games since playing Hudson last on December 20.

The Denver ladies got off to a hot start over the Pirates with an early 7-1 lead from Emma Hennessey and her points in the paint. However, the Pirates would shrink the lead with a 7-3 run led by Morgan Galbraith on the three-point line. The Cyclones would pull ahead again with a barrage of three-pointers from Reese Johnson and Jaden McMahon to make the score 19-10 with Denver ahead at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the scoring slowed down but the intensity of play didn’t. The Pirates got their first lead of the game after inside shots from Ashlynn Kuhn that put them ahead 21-20. Hudson and Denver would eventually close out the half tied at 23-23.

To start the second half, the Pirates quickly gained the lead at 29-27. The Cyclones and Pirates would stay roughly neck and neck for most of the third quarter until Denver pulled a narrow lead out at the end of the quarter with Johnson hitting a three.

The Pirates and Cyclones would constantly change the minuscule lead throughout the 4th quarter until the Cyclones pulled ahead by 4 points with Allison Bonnette stepping up. The Cyclones finished off strong and fended off the Pirates to win 54-51. Denver’s record improved to 12-7 while Hudson’s decreased to 13-5.
