Denver takes down Hudson, finishes on top at Triangular

2A #8-ranked Denver volleyball team faced off against 2A #10-ranked Hudson in Hudson on Oct. 6. Denver bested Hudson 26-24 and 25-12 in the first two rounds. Hudson nudged ahead 25-23 and 25-21 in the third and fourth. The final victory came as Denver nailed a 15-10 win in the fifth.

The two teams were neck-and-neck with both teams totaling 64 kills and 18 blocks apiece. Denver’s kill efficiency rate was slightly higher than the home team’s, though. For serves, Denver dominated with 108 successful serves and a 99.1% efficiency compared to Hudson’s 85 successful serves with an 89.5% efficiency.

Denver leaders were Reese Johnson with 51 assists, Allison Bonnette with 3.4 kills and .4 serve assists, Jessica Gergen with 6 blocks, and Kate Clinton with 18 digs.

The Cyclones went on to compete against 1A #1-ranked Janesville and 2A #15-ranked Aplington Parkersburg at the Cyclone Center on Oct. 8. Denver went 2-0 against top ranked Janesville and 3-0 against Aplington-Parkersburg.

The Cyclones finished the week with a new record of 29-5.
