Cyclone girls hold strong to their #7 ranking

The Denver Cyclone varsity girls’ basketball team took a 64-16 win over Wapsie Valley (2-8) on Jan. 5. This marked Denver’s eighth win of the season.

Reese Johnson and Grace Hennessy both scored 11 points. Emma Hennessy and Avery Forde were also double-digit scorers with 10 points each.

The team had 34 rebounds, 19 steals, 17 assists, and eight blocks.

Against Aplington-Parkersburg

On Jan. 8, the girls were down by two against Aplington-Parkersburg. By the end of the second quarter, they had edged ahead to a one-point lead. By the third quarter, Denver stood in a 34-24 lead. They finished the game with a victory of 49-40.

Allison Bonnette was the leading scorer for Denver with 14 points. Emma Hennessy was right behind her with 12 points. Bonnette had six of the team’s 27 rebounds and three of its 12 assists. Both Bonnette and Grace Hennessy had two steals each.

Reese Johnson, Tessa Joerger, and Rachel Hennessy each had one steal. Avery Forde had the team’s sole block.

The girls were on the road Tuesday, Jan. 12 against Dike-New Hartford and will play Columbus Catholic at 6:15 PM this Friday, Jan. 15 at Columbus Catholic High School.
