School staff receives 1st round of vaccine
By Lindsey Corell

On February 9, Denver Community School District staff members received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccination.

Administrators were notified by the Bremer County Department of Health that they were approved to start the vaccinations. Twenty-one staff members received the vaccination on Tuesday. The staff members who received the vaccination first were notified by Denver school nurse Kari Murch. Murch, along with the Bremer County Health Department, administered the vaccines.

To help prioritize which staff members would get the vaccination first, a similar guidance to what other schools followed was used. The prioritization was as follows: ages 60 and over, staff with underlying conditions, staff working one-on-one closely to students where six feet is not always possible, bus drivers, all other staff working directly with kids, all other staff (secretaries, custodians, lunchroom help, administrators) and ending with all others.

The next group of staff members will receive their first round of vaccines when administrators are notified by the Bremer County Department of Health Department that dosages are available.
