By Micah Knebel

The Cyclones will be advancing four athletes to the traditional state wrestling tournament this year.

Denver had seven athletes compete in this year's regional districts. Isaac Schimmels, who has only lost one match this season, finished in first in the 138 lb. matchup. Schimmels won his semifinal with a 3:20 pin and then went on to score a 1:15 fall against MFL-Mar Mac's Karter Decker (41-5) in the first place match.

126 lb. Brooks Meyer also finished in first place at the Feb. 13 event. Meyer won his semifinal with a technical fall and went on to score a 55 second fall against Beckman Catholic's Dyersville's Nick Schmidt (24-10) in the first place match.

Also advancing to state are second place district finishers Ben Foelske at 152 lbs and Brennen Graber at 182 lbs.

120 lb. Joe Ebaugh fell just short of a spot at state with his third place finish. 145 lb. Brody Shover and 160 lb. Cole Miller both finished fourth at districts.

The traditional wrestling tournament will take place at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines from Thursday, Feb. 18 - Saturday, Feb. 20.
