Lady Cyclones make successful run in post-season opener

The Denver girls’ basketball team (16-4) rolled over South Hardin (5-16) in the region two quarterfinal on Feb. 16. The Cyclones took a 61-21 victory at their home court.

Reese Johnson led with 16 points, followed by Grace Hennessy with 15 and Emma Hennessy with 13.

The team had 35 rebounds, including seven from Grace Hennessy and six from Reese Johnson. They also totaled 19 assists, 15 steals, and a pair of blocks.

Against Van Meter

The Denver girls traveled to Marshalltown on Feb. 19 to take on Van Meter (15-6) in the regional semifinal. The girls pulled away with a 44-23 win over the Bulldogs.

Leading scorers for Denver were Emma Hennessy with 13 points, followed by Allison Bonnette with 10, and Reese Johnson with seven.

The team had 34 rebounds, nine assists, and nine steals. Grace Hennessy also had one block.
