Tree, shrub seedlings give-away is Saturday for residents
The Denver Bird Friendly City committee will hold a tree and shrub seedling giveaway at the Denver Public Library, 100 Washington St., on Saturday, May 1 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.

The group received a grant from the Trees Forever Green Initiative program to order 175 seedlings of various tree and shrubs. The seedlings were selected to provide the community with habitat specifically geared to birds and pollinators. Many are well-suited for planting in small areas and landscaping around homes and yards.

Denver residents will be able to choose from the following varieties while supplies last: Arrowwood; Gray Dogwood; Hackberry; Nannyberry; Ninebark; Serviceberry; Silky Dogwood.
Residents are asked to have a first and second choice in mind when they arrive that morning to pick up their seedling. The seedlings are free, however, one seedling per household will be given out.

Volunteers will be on hand to package seedlings for transport and answer any questions on planting. Information on planting will also be included with the seedling.

The Green Initiative is a collaborative partnership between Trees Forever, the Green State Credit Union, and the Department of Natural Resources. The City of Denver became the 3rd Bird Friendly City in Iowa in December 2019. Since that time, the Bird Friendly committee has promoted community education and programs that encourage a healthy ecosystem for birds and other wildlife within the city.
