Girls’ soccer is ranked #6

It had been a week since the Cyclone girls’ soccer team had hit the field for a competition. Their return was a cold one.

Denver (1-0) took on Columbus (4-0) at the Sailors’ home field on Apr. 19. The undefeated Sailors were the first to score, landing a goal in the first half and another three in the second. The Cyclones’ scoring didn’t come until the second half. Sami Gehrke and Myah Swanson were the only scorers for Denver, making their record 1-1.

Against Gladbrook-Reinbeck

The Cyclones girls, who had just been named the #6 team in 1A, finished with a 6-1 victory over Gladbrook-Reinbeck (2-3) on Apr. 22. Denver ended the first half up 4-1 and then sealed the second half with another two goals.

Lexi Gehrke was the leading scorer with two points. Sami Gehrke, Abbi Austin, Jordyn Foelske, and Myah Swanson also had a goal. The team had six assists overall, two each from Sami Gehrke and Foelske and one each from Emma Haase and Jadyn Millius.

The Cyclone boys (3-1) suffered a 1-3 loss against the Rebels (2-2). Gladbrook-Reinbeck led Denver 2-0 at the close of the first half. Both teams were able to score one goal each in the second. Lakin Foelske was the sole scorer for Denver. Camren Knowles had one assist.
