Denver girls’ softball wins two this week
Denver’s girls’ softball team hosted Hudson June 13 knocking back the Pirates’ 1-0 lead in the second, with a two-run response. Both teams remained scoreless until Hudson again scored 4 runs in the 7th inning, giving them the 5-2 win.
Both Denver’s runs came on homeruns by junior third baseman Chardonnay Hubert and sophomore catcher Malea Gonnerman. Senior first baseman Avery Forde had 3 hits in the game.
Against Columbus Catholic
Denver squeaked out a 4-3 home field win over Columbus Catholic June 16, with a bottom of the 7th run to win the other-wise tied-up game.
Denver had the game in hand with a single run in the second, and two more in the fourth, for a comfortable 3-0 lead until the sixth, when Columbus knocked in two runs, followed by the tying run in the top of the seventh. In order to win, the Cyclones had to score a run in the bottom of the seventh, so the pressure was on – and win it they did, 4-3.
Against Union
It was a huge night for the Cyclones when they traveled to Union June 17. The girls brought in 13 runs to the Knights, single score to win 13-1.
Denver scored six runs in the first inning, adding a 7th in the second, coasting to the fifth inning, when Union scored their lone run. The Cyclones came back with six more runs in the 6th for the final 13-1 score.
The girls were scheduled to play three games on Saturday, June 18 at the New Hampton Tournament; then travel to Dike New Hartford for a game, June 20, then return home to Denver on Wednesday, June 22, to host Grundy Center at the Denver Athletic Complex.
