Denver Library offers many ways to give this holiday season
Public libraries offer so many services and opportunities to the patrons of the communities they serve. Libraries provide access to books, movies, the Internet, educational programming, and other important resources. They are places in the community for people to gather for meetings or socializing with one another. Inside the library, young children gain some of their first experiences with reading, putting them on the path to becoming life-long learners. Public libraries work with other organizations within their communities to help their towns grow and prosper.
This holiday season, you can help your library continue its important mission of serving the public! The Denver Public Library offers several ways you can support library services in our community.
The Denver Public Library Foundation was established last year to help plan for the future success of the library. This new organization is a 501(3)c and its primary purpose is to raise continuous and long-term private funds to supplement, not replace, public dollars. Donations to the Denver Public Library Foundation are tax-deductible and donors can be sure their dollars are contributing to the long-term growth and enhancement of library services in the Denver community. Donation forms and more information about the Foundation are available on the library’s website, www.denver.lib.ia.us, or by picking up a brochure at the library.
The Denver Public Library Foundation will have a “Giving Tree” at the library during Denver’s Old Fashion Christmas on Saturday, Dec. 3. The “Giving Tree” will give donors the opportunity to help the library jumpstart this important fund. The tree will remain up through the rest of the holiday season.
The Denver Library also has a very active Friends of the Library organization. This member-based group helps the library raise funds for the summer reading program, as well as other short-term needs the library’s operating budget cannot support. This group does several fundraisers throughout the year, including the Theme Basket Silent Auction during Denver’s Old-Fashioned Christmas. The Friends of the Library is also a 501(3)c organization. In addition to holding fundraising events, they provide volunteer support and advocate for library services. You can help the library by becoming a member of this group or by bidding on the silent auction baskets at the library on Dec. 3.
Families enjoy giving to the library by adopting a book from our adopt-a-book display. Those wishing to adopt a book pay the price of the book and can have a bookplate put inside the book with their name or message. They then have the opportunity to be the first patron to check the book out after it is processed into the library’s collection.
Each holiday season, the library has a wish list of items needed for programming. This year, the library is in need of small glue guns, glue sticks, and adult Fiskars scissors for our popular adult Make-and-Take craft programs.
There are many ways you can help our library continue to grow and offer quality services and opportunities to our community. Whether it is donating to the Foundation, volunteering at a program, or adopting a book for the collection, the library always appreciates the support of the community to help make Denver Library a great resource to the citizens of Denver.
