Veterans honored by local Legion
The Denver Legion had its annual Veterans Day potluck and program on Nov. 11 at the Post in Denver.
The event covered a variety of topics including a welcome by Denver Mayor Rod Diercks, a speech by Brig. General Curley Albrecht, and brief talks from the two high school students (Ian Dunleavy and Nathan Rabenhorst) about their experience at the Legion Boys State Conference at Ft. Dodge near Des Moines this summer.
Also, that day, the color guard from the Legion preformed in the morning at the high school.
Mentioned by both Butch Milius and Rod Diercks at the Veterans Day event was that this week was the first anniversary of Paul Milius Day (Nov. 13) and the dedication for the Captain Paul Milius rock at the Veterans Memorial Park in Denver. Paul’s plane was shot down over Vietnam in 1968 and he, a POW/ MIA, was never heard from again.
A Navy destroyer ship was also christened in Paul’s name on Oct. 28, 1995.
