Boys track breaks into season

Boys’ track and field was able to break into the season with a few indoor meetings last week.
The Denver Cyclones kicked off the season at Wartburg Mar. 6. There, the team had several top finishes. Teagen Palmer took first at the 200-meter dash. Evan Dorn was runner up in the 55-meter hurdles. Keaton Rothmeyer and Ethan Reiter took third and fourth in the long jump.

Dickinson Relays
On Mar. 7, the boys were back at it, this time for UNI’s Dickinson relays. The event included 113 schools with large heats.
One of the highlights of the event was Kasey Wirtjes advancing past the 60-meter hurdle preliminaries to take fifth in the finals. He finished with a time of 8.52.
Both the 4x200 and 4x800-meter teams shaved off some time from their previous day performances. In the shotput, Corbin Hill improved his throw to 37-08.00.

On Mar. 10, nine Cyclones headed to Ames for this year’s Iowa Association of Track Coaches Indoor Championships.
Both Evan Dorn and Kasey Wirtjes passed the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles. Wirtjes claimed the top price with a finish time of 8.44, a new personal record. Evan Dorn took third at 8.76, his best time.
Wirtjes also finished with his season best score in the high jump. He claimed 10th with a jump of 5-11.00.
Ethan Reiter hit a personal record with his time of 53.30 in the 400-meter dash. He finished eighth overall.
The shuttle hurdle team, made up of Isaac Larson, Dagen Henzen, Dorn, and Wirtjes, took third at 36.06.
The 4x800-meter relay team, made up of Christian Brown, Max Schwandt, Neal Pinter, Ethan Doty, finished sixth with their season best time of 9:03.66.
