HUDSON HOLDS OFF DENVER BOYS IN DISTRICT FINAL; CYCLONES END SEASON WITH TOUGH LOSS

CEDAR FALLS –
Hudson blistered the nets with six 3-pointers to take a commanding lead in the first quarter over the Denver Boys Basketball team, and the Pirates held on for a thrilling 60-56 victory on Tuesday night.
The Class 2A District Final game was played at Cedar Falls High School on February 21.
Hudson led by 12 points at halftime, and by 45-33 with two minutes remaining in the third quarter.
Denver went on a 12-3 run to close the margin at 48-45 by the end of the third quarter.
Hudson extended the lead to eight points in the fourth quarter, and Denver could not get the basket to close the gap.
The Cyclones had open looks at the basket, but the ball wouldn’t fall in.
Denver had crept within a point late in the fourth quarter, but the Cyclones missed a lay up, and they missed a 3-point chance.
Hudson answered with a 3-pointer to up the margin to four points, and Denver couldn’t respond.
Marcus McMahon led Denver in scoring with 20 points.
Earlier in season, Denver had defeated Hudson 77-62 in a NICL (East) Conference game at Denver.
The Cyclones defeated the Pirates 64-60 in a return conference game at Hudson on January 10.
It is very hard to defeat a team three times in a season.
With the loss, Denver completed a remarkable season with a 21-2 record overall.
Hudson advanced to face MFL/Mar-Mac in a Class 2A Sub-State Final game at the McLeod Center in Cedar Falls on Saturday, February 25, starting at 8 p.m.
