Denver softball battles Grundy Center In regional opener

On July 8, the softball team (19-8) hosted Grundy Center (17-8) for their regional quarterfinal. It marked the second time the two teams had faced each other this season, the previous game resulting in an 8-2 victory for the Cyclones.

Despite their earlier loss, Grundy Center came ready to fight. The Spartans landed a pair of runs in each of the three innings to take a strong 6-0 lead by the close of the third. Denver got onto the board at the bottom of the fourth with two runs. The Spartans answered with an explosive four runs in the fifth, which was followed by a final run by Denver, ultimately culminating in a 10-3 finish for Grundy Center and ending Denver’s season.
