Elvira Hebell

Elvira (Kehe) Hebell, of La Crosse, Wisconsin and formerly of Denver, Iowa, passed away on July 27, 2025 in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

Elvira Kehe was born August 30, 1927, in Mansfield Township, Bremer County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Henry and Anna Sophia Schumacher Kehe. She graduated from Readlyn High School in 1945. She married Everett Hebell on April 21, 1950. He later died in a car accident in 1958. They had two daughters, Mary and Linda.

After her husband’s death, she re-entered the workforce, working for various car dealerships in the Waterloo, Cedar Falls, and Waverly area, retiring in 1992. After retirement, she remained active by volunteering as a member of Older Iowan Legislature, representing NE Iowa for 4 years. She also was a 28-year member of the Bremer County Genealogical Society and helped reorganize the Genealogy Room at the Denver Public Library. She was the go-to person for anyone wanting to trace their family histories in Bremer and Black Hawk Counties. She also was a master seamstress in her earlier days and loved playing cards or bingo and being with family. She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Denver, Iowa.

She is survived by two daughters, Mary (Gary) White of Granger, IA and Linda (Dr. Charles) Schauberger of Onalaska, four grandchildren: Kathryn Schauberger, Eric (Kathryn) Schauberger, and Mark Schauberger, all of Onalaska, and Megan (Bryan) White Wasek of Lee Summit, Missouri, and four great-grandsons.

She is preceded in death by her parents, three sisters (Bernice, Elsie, Darlene) and one brother, Virgil.

Services were held on Friday, August 1 at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Denver, IA. Visitation was held from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. with the service following. Interment was afterwards at Fairview Cemetery in Denver.

Memorials may be directed to the Denver Public Library for their genealogy room or donor’s choice. Elvira was a guiding light for so many.
