Marian L. (Dunlap) Dunleavy

Marian L. (Dunlap) Dunleavy, 91, of Waverly, IA, passed away of natural causes on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly.
Marian was born in Waterloo, IA, on June 18, 1931, to Howard and Lila (Woore) Dunlap, the oldest of seven children. She graduated from Denver High School in May 1949.
On August 26, 1951, Marian was united in marriage to Robert Dunleavy at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Denver. To this union three children were born: Mary, Lois, and John. The couple made their home in rural Denver for 68 years, with farming as their livelihood. In 2019, they moved to Willow Winds Assisted Living Community, Denver, and later, became residents of Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community.
Marian is survived by her children: Mary (Paul) Bolte, Sumner, IA; Lois (Mark) Finanger, Decorah, IA; and John (Sarah) Dunleavy, Denver, IA. Also surviving are a sister, Jean (Stan) Dancer, Sun City West, AZ; two brothers, Richard Dunlap, Denver, IA, and Ron (Mary) Dunlap, Stockton, MO; two brothers-in-law, Ron Matthias, Waverly, IA, and Loran (Becky) Simpson, Ames, IA; a sister-in-law, Ellen Jane Gibney, Toledo, OH; ten grandchildren including: Benjamin (Sarah) Bolte, Sumner, IA; Nathan (Rian) Bolte, Cedar Falls, IA; Laurie (Adam) Thomann, Riverside, IA; Lars (Emily) Finanger, The Woodlands, TX; Hans (Elizabeth) Finanger, Decorah, IA; Andrew Finanger (Jeannie Folan), Fort Collins, CO; Daniel (Michelle) Dunleavy, Preston, MN; Amy Dunleavy (Tim Greenwood), Iowa City, IA; Joanna Dunleavy (Austin Mennen), DeKalb, IL; and Ian Dunleavy, Denver, IA; and ten great grandchildren including: Chloe Bolte, Sumner, IA; MacKenzie Dallenbach (Evan Stevenson), Columbia, MO; Kaia and Elin Finanger, The Woodlands, TX; Libby and Ruben Finanger, Decorah, IA; Brooklyn and Jocelyn Thomann, Riverside, IA; Lina Finanger, Fort Collins, CO; and Forrest Dunleavy, Preston, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Marian was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Dunleavy in 2021; her parents, Howard and Lila Dunlap; parents-in-law John and Amanda (Sassmann) Dunleavy; three sisters, Donna Matthias Anderson, Betty Simpson, and Janice Milks; a brother-in-law, Tom Gibney; a sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Dunlap; and a grandson, William Bolte.
A pre-service Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 18, beginning at 12:30 p.m. at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Denver. A Celebration of Life service will take place at 2:00 p.m. at the church. Inurnment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Denver.
Memorials may be directed to the St. Paul United Church of Christ, Denver Cyclone Scholarship Foundation, or charity of donor’s choice.
