John Dale Cheever

John Dale Cheever, 93, of Denver, died Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at his home.
John was born November 8, 1929, the son of Clarence and Hazel (Scoles) Cheever. He graduated from Waterloo East High School and then served two years in the United States Army. He returned to the area and worked at Rath Packing in Waterloo for several years. On October 19, 1958, he was united in marriage to Shirley Kehe at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Denver. To this union three sons were born, Michael, David and Alan. John farmed west of Denver for many years and also worked at John Deere in Waterloo. On the farm he grew crops, milked cows, raised exotic birds and sheered many sheep over the years. John and Shirley coordinated the exotic animal/bird swap in Waverly for more than 30 years. Shirley passed away in 2009, and John continue to live on the farm until his passing.
John is survived by three sons; Michael Cheever of Denver, David Cheever of Waverly and Alan (Jennifer) Cheever of Waverly, six grandchildren; Brandon Cheever, Alaina Cheever, Emily Cheever, Jared Cheever, Elijah (Alexis) Cheever and Molly Cheever. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirley and nine siblings; Jean, Dixie, Alice, Laurel, Betty, Clarice, Marrietta, Elwood and Garland.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 6, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Denver. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home with an hour of visitation prior. Burial with military honors provided by the Acker-Matthias American Legion Post #653 will be held in the St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery in Denver.
