Girls take 4th at State, earn relay title

The Denver girls’ track team, which had 12 state qualifiers in 11 events, fell just a point shy of making it in the top three teams at this year’s state championships at the Drake Stadium. The girls tallied 35 points earning them fourth, similar to their state finish the previous season.
But a part of their run was a state title in the 4x100-meter relay. The team, made up of freshman Jillian Clayton, senior Natalie Demai, junior Elaina Hildebrandt, senior Anna Curtis, advanced from a first-place preliminary finish to win the event with a season best time of 49.80.
The 4x400-meter relay team, made up of junior Aubrey Decker, Curtis, sophomore Hailey Homan, and Demai, took second at 3:58.29, hitting not only another season best score but also a new school record.
The sprint medley team, made up of junior Deidra Cinadr, Hildebrandt, Curtis, and Decker, finished fourth with a time of 1:50.23, two seconds behind the first-place finishers.
Demai, who had been unable to compete earlier in the season due to injury, bounced back to claim a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash and score her season best time of 25.59.
Decker hit new personal records in both the 400-meter and 400-meter hurdles and finished ninth and fifth in those events, respectively.
Another personal record was set by Homan in the 800-meter. She took 17th with her time of 2:23.62.
In the 1500-meter, senior Amber Homan hit her season best time of 5:07.79 and finished 20th. Sophomore Reeve Ristau finished 23rd at 5:10.52, a new personal record.
