Cyclone boys earn a season best at State

The Denver boys competed in 10 events at this year’s state track & field championship May 18-20.
Senior Kasey Wirtjes came away with a third-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles. Wirtjes also earned a season best score of 6-01.00 in the high jump, landing him ninth. He also finished 22nd in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.66.
Junior Neal Pinter hit personal records in both the 1600-meter run and 3200-meter run. He finished 15th in the 1600-meter with a time of 4:35.72 and took 11th in the 3200-meter with a time of 10:09.30.
The shuttle hurdle relay team, made up of junior Evan Dorn, senior Isaac Larson, senior Chase Baumgartner, Wirtjes, claimed fourth with a time of 1:01.82, just a little over a second behind the first-place finishers from PCM, Monroe.
The 4x200, 4x400, and 4x800-meter relay teams all had season best times.
The boys’ sprint medley team suffered a disqualification for handing the baton off outside of the exchange zone.
Overall, the boys earned 13 points and tied for 16th.
