Cyclone girls’ soccer team battles through Regionals

The #8-ranked Cyclone girls’ soccer team earned their spot at the regional championship after taking down Columbus (11-6) in the regional semifinal on May 23. Denver (15-1) hosted the event.
Lexi Gehrke and Anna Mulert put the Cyclones in a 2-0 lead in the first half. They sealed their victory with a final goal from Alyssa Harberts in the second half, resulting in a 3-0 win for the Cyclones.
Goals were assisted by Keira Gehrke, Kenzie Snyder, and Harberts.
Regional Championship
The girls were once again on their home field May 25 for the regional championship. Denver faced #10-ranked Hudson in the event that would determine the state qualifier. Denver had claimed a 2-1 win over Hudson earlier in the month, and the Cyclones hoped to push through another victory.
It was a nail-bitter event with neither team able to score in either the first or second period. The game moved to overtime with Hudson landing the sole goal of the game and earning a spot at State.
The Cyclones closed out the season with a record of 16-2.
