XC claims wins at Union; girls hold at #4, boys move up to #7

Denver hit several personal records and season bests during the Union Invitational on Sept. 7. The high school teams both finished first at the 5K event.

The girls had three athletes finish in the top ten: Reeve Ristau (third at 20:42.8), Hailey Homan (fourth at 21:12.0), Anna Mulert (eighth at 21:28.9), and Sophie Sanderson (10th at 21:45.2)

For the boys, Myles Matthias took third with a time of 17:19.5 and was followed up by Sean Gomez (17:54.2), Carson Haase (18:05.2), and Trevor Baas (18:12.8) who took fifth, sixth, and seventh.

The middle school boys took second out of five teams in their 1.1 mile race. Jeese Gomez finished first at 5:23.3. Ethan Pagel took third at 6:24.9, followed by Kale Dahlager in ninth at 6:43.1.

The middle school girls finished fifth. Madelyn Hockenson was the top finisher for Denver, taking eighth at 7:34.4.

At Monticello

The teams closed out the week at Monticello on Sept. 9.
The varsity boys finished second out of 15 teams with 102 scoring competitors. Neal Pinter led Denver with a fourth-place finish at 16:33.9, followed by Myles Matthias in 12th at 17:33.5, Sean Gomez in 16th at 17:42.4, Ethan Larson in 18th at 17:46.6, Trevor Baas in 25th at 18:15.0, Carson Haase in 30th at 18:26.6, and Christian Brown in 71st at 19:56.2.

The varsity girls took fifth out of 11 teams with 72 scoring competitors. Avery Trunkhill finished 12th at 20:31.8, followed by Reeve Ristau in 19th at 20:54.1, Hailey Homan in 24th at 21:07.9, Anna Mulert in 31st at 21:31.6, Sophie Sanderson in 32nd at 21:31.9, Audrey Decker in 39th at 21:57.1, and Adeline Decker in 50th at 22:41.7.

For JV, the boys finished first with Denver claiming the top four spots out of 60. Mitchell Doepke took first at 18:45.7, followed by Jarrett Clayton in second at 19:07.6, Devin Homan in third at 19:17.4, and Jason Waterman in fourth at 19:18.1. Grant Pautsch also finished in the top 10. He took eighth with a time of 19:43.4.

The girls took third out of six teams with Ari Valverde taking third out of 38 scorers at 22:41.1 and Emily Mulert 10th at 23:45.6.

In week three, the varsity girls ranking held at #4 in 2A. The boys ranking moved from #10 to #7 with Neal Pinter claiming #15 individually.
