Cyclone volleyball moves up the ranks

The Denver volleyball team, now moving up to the #4 spot in 2A, scored its 21st win on Sept. 19. The Cyclones defeated the Columbus Sailors in a 3-0 knockout.
Offensively, Denver tallied 44 kills, 40 assists, and 90 attacks. Bailey Mullihan led the way with 13 kills followed by Jessica Gergen with eight and Channing Johnson, Elaina Hildebrandt, and Grace Mullihan with six apiece. Myia Rosecrans had another five. Johnson had 33 of the team’s assists.
Gergen had five of the team’s 11 blocks and five of its defensive assists. Mullihan also had 12 of the team’s 44 digs.
Johnson and Rosecrans scored the team’s six aces.
At Denver
The team closed out homecoming week as runners-up at their home tournament on Sept. 23.
Denver claimed 2-0 wins over Vinton-Shellsburg, Tripoli, and Beckman Catholic. Their final game put them up against #5 Sumner-Fredericksburg, a team they had defeated just the week before. The Cougars got their payback with a 0-2 win over the Cyclones.
The #4 Cyclones moved to a 24-6 record.
