Cross country team kicks off Homecoming week with top finishes

The Denver cross country program kicked off homecoming week on Sept. 18 with several first place finishes.

Both varsity programs took first in their events. Neal Pinter was runner-up in the boys’ event at 16:46.47 and was followed by Myles Matthias in third at 17:11.98.

For the girls, Anna Mulert took fifth with a time of 21:08.99, followed by Hailey Homan in sixth at 21:09.22, and Ari Valverde in ninth at 21:34.45.

The JV boys also claimed a first. With just four teams competing at the team level, Denver claimed the top eight places at the event and were led by Christian Brown in first at 19:18.92 and Caden Knoblock in second at 19:23.74.

The JV girls finished second. Jillian Clayton was the top finisher for Denver with a time of 24:20.13, earning her third. Grace Swales took fourth at 24:26.63. Avery Mcintosh and Haley Lalk took seventh and eighth with times of 24:36.40 and 24:49.74.

The middle school boys took first, and once again touted Jesse Gomez as the top finisher at the event with a time of 10:34.48, over a minute and a half ahead of the second-place finisher. Ethan Pagel took third at 12:36.9.

The middle school girls finished third with Madelyn Hockenson claiming 12th at 14:49.41.
